Okra plants thrive in the Central Texas summer

For those of you reading this blog in preparation for a move to Steiner Ranch, you may wonder what plants grow in the Texas summer. The answer is – PLENTY! Okra, tomatoes, beans, squash, peppers and tomatillos all do well in Central Texas. Not to mention the wonderful array of herbs that can be grown year-round. In winter, this gardener had great success with broccoli, spinach and mixed greens. The key to Central Texas gardening is to keep it native. Steiner Ranch common areas along the boulevards can serve as a great inspiration for landscape plants. Today (June 17) there are gorgeous blooms on the crape myrtles and the vitex trees creating quite a show along Quinlan Park Road!
