What Can I Grow in Austin, TX?

Posted by: Steiner Ranch on: June 17, 2010

Okra plants thrive in the Central Texas summer

For those of you reading this blog in preparation for a move to Steiner Ranch, you may wonder what plants grow in the Texas summer. The answer is – PLENTY! Okra, tomatoes, beans, squash, peppers and tomatillos all do well in Central Texas. Not to mention the wonderful array of herbs that can be grown year-round. In winter, this gardener had great success with broccoli, spinach and mixed greens. The key to Central Texas gardening is to keep it native. Steiner Ranch common areas along the boulevards can serve as a great inspiration for landscape plants. Today (June 17) there are gorgeous blooms on the crape myrtles and the vitex trees creating quite a show along Quinlan Park Road!

Summer Weather in Austin

Posted by: Steiner Ranch on: June 7, 2010

We get lots of questions about the weather here in Steiner Ranch. Yes, it gets hot on summer afternoons. The bright side is that evenings are comfortable & you will never need a sweatshirt or jacket after the sun goes down. Steiner Ranch residents love their views (like the one above, which is unfortunately sold), so they build elaborate outdoor living areas. There is nothing better than enjoying an evening with friends on the back patio.

This Monterey Home in Savannah Pointe is a perfect example of what Steiner Ranch residents enjoy most in the summer!
